Founded in 2008, ppa has grown into a leading international consultancy specialising in Mission Critical Infrastructure and Data Centre Engineering

Our Data Centre Design Heritage

Since 2008, ppa has grown alongside one of the most significant infrastructure shifts of the modern digital economy. What began as a market shaped by traditional enterprise data centres, raised floors, CRAC units and low-density racks has become a global mission-critical sector defined by hyperscale campuses, sustainability requirements, high-density compute and AI-ready infrastructure.
Across that journey, the priorities have changed significantly.
Early facilities were designed around resilience, airflow control and conventional rack densities. Then came the rise of PUE, containment strategies and more advanced modelling. Free cooling, adiabatic systems and improved chiller technologies reshaped plant design. Cloud adoption changed scale. Covid accelerated digital demand. Sustainability moved from a long-term ambition to a central design consideration. Today, AI is driving a new generation of facilities where power, cooling, controls, commissioning and campus-level resilience need to be considered together from the earliest stages.
ppa’s heritage reflects this transformation.
We have supported data centre environments through each major phase of technical development, from underfloor air distribution and 5 kW racks to high-density halls, liquid cooling strategies and the infrastructure demands now emerging around AI and next-generation compute.
